Dr. V or How I learned to stop worrying and Love the Q
Posted: 2007-10-16
Picked up a Moto Q off of Craigslist this past weekend. Thanks go to that particular person for all the help migrating from the world of simple phones into the smartphone arena. At first, it was a bit strange, what with the Windows-ness and all. Turns out you can't use iSync and some Windows Mobile devices to sync calendars and contacts (wtf are you thinking Apple?!), but an overall pleasant experience. Then, something changed this morning that took it from pleasant to extremely pleasant. Well, nice enough to make me forget about the ridiculous contract they signed me into (apparently, migrating to your own plan from a family plan makes you a 'new customer' despite being with the same company for six years) and it's this: fully editable xml-based settings.
Now, this is Windows we're talking about here so I can't just go in and edit everything all willy-nilly.(?!) But I can edit my home screen to the point where I can remove all mention of Verizon Wireless (how-to coming soon) and the mail settings and (as if there aren't enough websites out there that do this) how-to also coming soon.
So in short, the Moto Q was the best $180 ($350 for a one-year contract on a year+ old phone? f*** you, VZ!) I've ever spent while on Verizon Wireless (that's saying a lot if you knew what I did to my old V3M).
Now, back to hacking...
