The Beginning of the End Part II
Posted: 2009-08-25
You never know how much you miss something until it's gone.I believe I started this blog with those exact words, if not ones very similar to them. That will be four years ago, come December 2nd.
In all that time, I haven't had an outage that lasted longer than a few days that wasn't my own doing. Either by screwing around with the code, or just being lazy, this site has been host to a 404 screen and fucked up errors more than any other I've ever worked on.
But nothing prepared me for the panic and constant checking of having my site go down for over the past week and change. Who would've guessed that the website I've been neglecting for the past year would, upon its disappearance from the web, cause me so much grief? Some would call it a lesson in appreciating what you have. To me, it's more like suddenly having your underwear fly off your body. Technically, you're not naked, but you just can't shake the feeling that you need to get your ass to the Target men's department pronto. Without having a presence on the web that belongs to me and only me, that's what I felt like. Fuck Facebook. Fuck Twitter. Fuck any of those other auto-blogging services out there. When you need to put your thoughts onto the internet without any filters, friend lists, or bullshit, make a website. Post it. That's the nature of the internet. Enjoy it. I know I do, now more than ever.
