This is Important Stuff Here!

All too often, I'll start writing something for this site and almost instantaneously click the logout button in the upper-left corner. Why is that?

Is it a persistent case of writer's block?; a holdover from the loss of my muse and the home of this site?

Perhaps a niggling feeling that my writing has decreased dramatically in terms of both structure and interesting content now that I'm in a happy and stable relationship and thus, not totally hammered all the time?

Or maybe it's just that I've been out of college for too long and in a cushy life where the size of one's television and the square footage of their apartment are the new metrics by which they are measured, rather than the arbitrary grading system that constantly forces students to innovate and grow more than their real-world counterparts?

Maybe it's all three of those reasons. Whatever the cause, I just remembered a few things that help motivate me. Feel free to bookmark this in your mind as "self-help motivational crap":

  • Orisinal Floats: A short flash game with both relaxing music and a fun premise that helps me resist brain overload when working on a big project. This game helped me stay sane my last semester in college
  • Orisinal WinterBells: Another game by the author of Floats guaranteed to elicit both an "aww" and "fuck! damnit!"
  • Unfortunately, this last one applies to New York City and it's summertime only. Here it is: Early on a Saturday morning (think 8 AM-ish), go to a Starbucks in midtown and grab three petite vanilla bean scones and a grande iced coffee, unsweetened and no room for milk. Trust me on this, you won't need it. Bring that, along with your favorite book to Bryant Park and sit at one of the green tables outside Bryant Park grill, preferably next to a tree. Now this next bit is the most important part: eat your scones, sip your coffee, and read your book. Take in the air and enjoy the atmosphere. That's a New York few of the business-types ever see, and it's right in their faces.

So that's it. I just discovered WinterBells so it might actually be more of an example of a stressful work of art than a motivational/relaxing technique, but the other two work wonders. Hope that helps somebody. Cheers!
